I am a "Microcomputer Specialist" for the Geophysical Institute which is a part of the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. Although I specialize in microcomputers, I am not limited to only microcomputers. I also work on workstations and their peripherals. If it is computer related, just ask. If I can't deal with your problem I probably know who can. My duties and areas of expertise are as follows:
Troubleshooting I specialize in troubleshooting and repairing small computer systems and related peripherals. That includes Macintosh computers, PC clone computers and peripherals such as printers, CD ROMS, Tape drives and other goodies.
Consulting In addition to these duties I also review and recommend hardware and software purchases to University Staff.
Network I install software and provide some training that will get you connected to network services such as e-mail and network browsing. I sometimes assist the network manager with wiring new network connections and serve as part of the backup crew when the network manager is gone.
Quicktime Video Production
I can produce Cross Platform Quicktime movies from your VHS or 8mm video tape. Production includes editing of the video portion, dubbing new sound tracks to your movie and to a limited extent, I can also shoot new video using an 8mm video camera. Samples of Cross Platform Quicktime video that I have produced can be downloaded and viewed here. If your computer or browser does not support Quicktime yet, get it by following this link to the Official Quicktime Web Site.
Home Page Development
If your department is contemplating composing or developing a home page of your own to reside on the World Wide Web and you need assistance, then contact the Computer Resource Center or send me e-mail. We can provide assistance to varying degrees including just helping out or doing the entire job for you! The following are web sites that I maintain.
Special Projects: This is what I call anything that doesn't fall into other categories. One such "special" project has been an ongoing development of a Pinbone Removal Machine that was designed to remove those annoing pinbones from Salmon Fillets. The Pinbone Machine has been one of my favorite projects since I started working for the Geophysical Institute.
