Radarsat Geophysical Processor System
The Radarsat Geophysical Processor System is a computer program which lays a grid over the ice covered Arctic Ocean and tracks that grid throughout the winter season. Summer conditions are tracked separately but in the same way. RGPS generates product: backscatter, ice-age thickness, lagrangian ice motion and ice deformation files. These products can be used by scientists studying the sea ice in the Arctic Ocean to address problems in sea ice dynamics, in the extent and thickness of the sea ice cover and in modeling climate.
