Aurora Forecast for Friday, March 9, 2012

Forecast: Auroral activity will be active. Weather permitting, active auroral displays will be visible overhead from Inuvik, Yellowknife, Rankin and Igaluit to Juneau, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Sept-Iles, and visible low on the horizon from Vancouver, Great Falls, Pierre, Madison, Lansing, Ottawa, Portland and St. Johns.

Forecaster Comments: Another solar event occurred early on March 9th. The shock from this event should reach Earth sometime around the middle of March 10th GMT. The debris will follow approximately 12 to 18 hrs later. This means that the auroral activity with K index as high as 7 will continue, and aurora watchers should look for activity in their nighttime sky on the nights of March 9-12, although the nights of the 9/10 and the 10/11 may not be as active.
