Writing about the discovery of the deepest gorge in the world is the responsibility of the Geophysical Institute Public Information and Education Outreach Office, the editorial, publications, and public relations center for the institute.

The office employs personnel trained to write and produce publications and information for external audiences, to edit proposals for research funding and other technical material, and to prepare information in a variety of forms to the media, the public, and educational institutions.

 

Editing and Writing Services include:
  • writing the Alaska Science Forum, a column published in
    newspapers and aired on radio shows throughout Alaska which
    interprets research for the layperson;
  • preparing articles and releases for the media and for public outreach;
  • writing and editing proposals for funding, journal articles about
    scientific achievements, and manuscripts for funding agencies;
  • producing brochures and fliers for the institute and for affiliated organizations;
  • editing and writing for special videos, slide shows, and displays;
  • preparing fact sheets and other information for educational institutions and schools;
  • editing and writing for symposiums, conferences and special events;
  • preparing workshop and conference announcements;
  • providing desktop publishing consultation and printer liaison assistance;
  • preparing information packets for visitors;
  • preparing paid advertisements for publication;
  • performing background research for publications and other publication assistance.
