The GI Public Information and Education Outreach Office is the outreach center for the institute, providing a variety of services to the media, to the public, and to researchers and students around the world.

Researchers at the Geophysical Institute study topics ranging from the center of the earth to the center of the sun and beyond, including the diminishing ozone layer, Alaska's glaciers, volcanoes, and earthquakes, and global climate change in the Arctic.
