Public Relations Services
The Geophysical Institute Public
Information and Education Outreach Office acts as a coordination center for
the institute's public relations activities and as a resource for information
about institute researchers. Trained personnel in the office conduct activities
that promote the nature of the institute's research, instruction, accomplishments,
and public service.
PR Services include:
- Scheduling and promoting numerous events open to the public
including lectures, workshops, open houses, symposiums, and seminars;
- Scheduling scientific speakers for public lectures, for
service organizations, for classroom presentations, and for related activities
on a local, statewide, national, and international level;
- Coordinating on-location news and media interviews for the
institute and institute scientists. The office prepares news releases, arranges
briefings and press conferences, with GI administration and faculty, and prepares
background material for media consumption;
- Scheduling and find volunteers for science fairs, career-day
fairs, and other local, statewide, national, and international events and
symposiums;
- Scheduling and conducting tours of the Geophysical Institute
and of Poker Flat Research Range year round for schools, public groups, and
visitors;
- Responding to requests for information about a wide range
of topics and conducts background research for inquiries that come to the
institute through email, by phone, or via letter.
