
The University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute, International Arctic Research Center, and Poker Flat Research Range offer free summer tours to the public.
The public can learn about the Alaska Satellite Facility and the Alaska Earthquake Information Center at the Geophysical Institute. Tours of the Geophysical Institute are every Wednesday from June 4 - August 27 at 2:30 PM. Meet in Elvey Building lobby. Scientists at the International Arctic Research Center study arctic climate and global climate change. Tours of the International Arctic Research Center are every Wednesday from June 4 - August 27 at 4:00 PM. Meet in the lobby of the Akasofu Building (a.k.a. IARC) lobby. The tours of these two facilities are arranged so that people can attend both tours. Phone 474-7853 for information, or email travismb@gi.alaska.edu. Tours of Poker Flat Research Range, the only university-owned sounding rocket range in the world, are at 1:30 PM on the following Thursdays: June 12, June 26, July 10, July 24, August 7, and August 14. Look for the rocket on the right side of the road, 30 miles north of Fairbanks on the Steese Highway. Call 474-7853 for information, or email travismb@gi.alaska.edu. Please make reservations for groups of 10 or more. Transportation to the range is not provided.
Important Note regarding Visitor Parking at UAF
Don't park in the "decal lots" or in "reserved spots" between the hours of 7 AM to 5 PM! Campus parking enforcement is quite efficient, so why ruin your day with a ticket.
