Recruiting Process Information
The University of Alaska utilizes an online recruitment system. Please visit uakjobs.com for vacancy announcements and information on applying for positions.
Screening applicants is generally a three or four stage process in which all screening criteria are taken directly from the job vacancy announcement. The first stage screens for minimum job requirements and ensures that all paperwork is submitted, including the cover letter, resume, references, and signed UA Applicant Form. The second stage generally rates the applicants’ qualifications to inlcude minimum and preferred criteria from the job vacancy announcement. Screening is based on paperwork submitted by the applicants. Applicants need to make sure they submit all required documents and that those documents are comprehensive, and give detailed information on qualifications as well as work experience. For some positions, a third stage may involve knowledge/skills testing given prior to, or at time of interviews. Interviews comprise the final stage(s) of screening. An applicant will usually be interviewed by the person with hiring authority and up to two or three other members of an interview committee. Reference checks are conducted on all applicants being considered for hire, and candidates may be subject to a background investigation once a job offer has been made.
All applicants can expect communication during the hiring process to keep them informed of the recruitment status. Once a position is filled, notification of hire will be sent to all applicants who competed for the position.
