Deaf Students Visit Aurora Pond, March 2002Shannon Graham, who teaches at the Washington School for the Deaf, Vancouver, WA, worked on lake ice and snow with Martin Jeffries in March and April 2002. While in Fairbanks, Shannon took the opportunity to meet with the deaf community, including all the deaf children in Fairbanks schools. Thanks to Vivian Deininger, who coordinated the field trip, we all visited Aurora Pond on 4 April 2002. As the photographs show, we enjoyed a perfect, sunny afternoon measuring snow depth and temperature, weighing snow samples, and demonstrating how the hot-wire ice thickness gauge works. Subsequently, Shannon and Martin received delightful "Thank You" cards that the students had made themselves.
