Teachers involved with ALISON at PFRR and Aurora Pond

Carol Scott

Carol Scott at 34 Mile Pond Carol Scott is currently a 7th/8th grade science teacher in Fairbanks, Alaska. With a strong background in teaching field science at the high school level in Alaska, Colorado, Idaho and Wyoming, she continually strives to engage her students in hands-on, project-based science activities.

Prior to her current teaching position, she was the Fairbanks site coordinator for the NSF-funded science teacher enhancement POLARIS (Project On Leading Alaska Restructuring In Science) program. She has also worked as the Fairbanks School District’s science and mathematics program coordinator, as the education coordinator for the Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S., as a cold water survival instructor for the Alaska Marine Safety Education Association, and as a backpacking/rafting guide in the Brooks Range.

She says: "Time and again I’ve seen my students’ interest and motivation to learn really take off when they make a direct connection between their own lives and real science research that is occurring in their own "back-yards." With our wonderfully big "back yard" in Alaska, including long winters with plenty of ice around, ALISON helps to provide such a connection for students."
