Adelie penguins getting acquainted. The Adelie penguin is one of only two types of penguin that remain all year in Antarctica. The other truly polar penguin is the Emperor penguin, which is roughly three times the size of the Adelie penguin. It is unlikely that we will see any Emperor penguins on this visit because by now most are probably moulting out in the pack ice some distance from McMurdo Sound.
