LocationAurora PondAurora Pond is located in the Aurora subdivision of Fairbanks, only 2.3 km as the crow flies from the downtown offices of the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. Situated by the Johansen Expressway, the pond is actually a gravel pit that flooded after highway construction. It is about 200 m by 200 m in size and the water depth varied between 9.3 m and 17.66 m beneath the ice along the 100 m measurement transect used in 2001-02. Aurora Pond is privately owned and we are grateful to Mr. John Roberts for permission to use it for an ALISON observatory. | ||||
