"Skating Pond"

The Hughes study site, known as the “skating lake”, is at the south end of the village and a roughly ten-minute walk from the school. About 150 m long and 15 m wide, it is more of a pond that was probably once a slough, where water must have flowed but has long since ceased to do so. Not only is the pond width-challenged, the water is shallow - roughly 0.7 m where we installed the ice thickness gauge. The latitude and longitude are 66.04°N, 154.25°W.
