Ashana Lake (2008-2009)

The second ALISON study site for Kenai Middle School and the home-school group is located in Soldotna on Ashana Lake, approximately 24 km SE from the school. It is located at 60°59.98'N, 151°48.96'W, and the elevation is approx. 65m. Ashana Lake is a kidney shaped lake about 200 m long and 75 m wide. The lake is a clay bowl lake fed by run-off from rain and snow/ice melt from the surrounding rolling hillsides.

Marathon Lake (2004-2006)

The ALISON study site in Kenai is at Marathon Pond (60.5655°N, 151.2303°W ) on Marathon Road about 1.5 km west of Kenai Middle School. This roughly kidney-shaped pond is about 100 m wide and 200 m long. The pond is located on the grounds of the Alaska Regional Fire Training Center (also known as the Pacific Rim Institute for Safety Management – PRISM).
