Norbert Untersteiner, known to many in the International Arctic Research Center and the Geophysical Institute, died in Washington on March 14, 2012. He was 86.

Untersteiner was an advisory board member for both the GI and IARC. Untersteiner led the IARC Science Advisory Board during IARC's formation.

As part of the 2012 Science for Alaska Lecture Series, University of Alaska Unmanned Aircraft Program Manager Greg Walker was in the State capital April 16-19. On April 18, Walker was invited to display various models of UA unmanned aircraft and present before legislators. Fairbanks Daily News-Miner Reporter Matt Buxton was there to cover the exchange with legislators and the interest sparked by local Juneau residents that participated in one of the Science Socials held at Centennial Hall, featuring Walker and other UA researchers.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Science Potpourri will provide hands-on science fun for the entire family on Saturday, April 14, 2012. The Interior rumbled early this morning with a sizeable quake. With an epicenter just 35 miles west of Fairbanks, a 3.83 earthquake occurred at 1:21 a.m. April 11, 2012. Since that initial temblor, a number of minor quakes continue to rattle the center of the state.
