Science professional development course for teachers
Investigations in Cyber-enabled Education, or ICE, is accepting applications for its fall 2011 Snow Cover course for educators. The science professional development course for teachers features a collaborative online network for teaching and learning about the role of snow in global climate. Participants interact with a suite of online lessons and are given access to snow-related data and resources appropriate for classroom use.
Aurora Alert issued
According to long-time GI Aurora Forecaster Chuck Deehr, a large solar event occurred near the central part of the sun on Aug. 2, 2011. Effects of the flare are expected to arrive at Earth on the evening of August 3 (GMT). High auroral activity is forecasted for the night of August 3, and perhaps the night of August 4.

UAF to participate in 2011 Golden Days parade
This year marks the first Golden Days parade that will feature large-scale, unified University of Alaska Fairbanks participation. Though many university-affiliated groups have a long tradition of walking, riding, and dancing the approximate 2.7-mile-long parade route independently, all units will join forces from here on out.
