Middle school students to learn rocket science and more at UAF

Thirty-six rural students will visit the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus for a two-day intensive program meant to polish their science and math skills. Middle school students from Chalkyitsik, Beaver, Kaltag and Unalakleet will learn the basics of rocket science, climate and the water cycle as part of the Science &Math Enrichment Program (SMEP).

Students from the villages of St. Michael and Stebbins will visit research institutes, and participate in hands-on activities guided by scientists, as part of the annual Science & Math Enrichment Program.
UAF alumna to head SAR facility
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) has appointed UAF alumna Nettie La Belle-Hamer as director of the Alaska Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Facility. La Belle-Hamer earned her Ph.D. and Master of Science degrees in space physics at UAF in 1994 and 1988, respectively.
