October's food drive was a success; December's Adopt-a-Family holiday gift collection going on now!

December 1, 2011

Food drive collections!

In the month of October faculty, staff and students of the Geophysical Institute collected 628 pounds of non-perishable food items and $700 in monetary donations for the Fairbanks Community Food Bank.

The GI Food Drive began in the fall of 2009 as a service project of the GI Staff Council. Since 2009, employees at the GI have collected more than 2,300 pounds of food and have donated more than $800 to the Fairbanks Community Food Bank.

Thank you to all who helped to make the Third Annual GI Food Drive a success and those who are continuously dedicated to community service!

There’s still plenty of ways to continue giving through the holiday season at the GI. Swing by the 6th floor of the Elvey Building to read about the families that we have adopted this Christmas. Through Love Inc. the GI will be sponsoring two families by providing them with much needed supplies, Christmas gifts, and holiday cheer.

Please select the gift you would like to give by removing one or more of the gold stars posted on the bulletin board next to the Elvey mailroom. Then, bring the stars and the gifts to the GI Director’s Office by Wednesday, December 14.

Your help is truly appreciated.
