Friends and former colleagues are saddened to learn the news of Helga Wilm’s passing. She was 71-years-old. Wilm provided 40 years of service to the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She assisted four research directors at the university, playing an essential role in leadership as well as the development of major research projects since she began her career at UAF in 1968.
Wilm was granted emerita status and a park was named in her honor in August 2009. The Helga Wilm Park is near the milepost sign, just outside the Elvey and Akasofu Buildings on West Ridge.
The Geophysical Institute Director’s Office will provide a card to the family. You may add your condolences to that card tomorrow in Elvey 601. Wilm’s family is planning a celebration of life to take place in early August. More details to come.
