Space Physicists at the Geophysical Institute have been tracking the multiple solar events over the last two weeks. As a result of three solar events occurring on Jan. 18 and 19, Aurora Forecaster and Professor Emeritus Charles Deehr issued an Aurora Alert and predicted displays in the range of 4 or 5 on a scale of 9.

Another two solar events occurred on Jan. 23, prompting Deehr to again issue an Aurora Alert for higher-than-normal aurora activity.

People from around the world have been contacting the GI for more information on aurora viewing, mostly wondering if they will be able to see the display in the Lower 48. Many aurora watchers have submitted their photos.

Featured here is a panoramic shot by astrophotographer Goran Strand of Sweden. The title of this is The Little Astrophotographer, a tribute to the novel The Little Prince.
