Title: Lessons learned from the first wintertime fuel delivery at Nome

Summary: In this talk, I will provide an overview of the tanker and icebreaker operations for the delivery of 1.3 million gallons of fuel to the iced-in city of Nome earlier this winter. Members of the GI became involved in the operation at the request of the Coast Guard and I will present I will present data from field measurements and remote sensing that supported the planning and fuel transfer. This was an unusual opportunity for research, but one that benefitted a wide variety of stakeholders and one that many at UAF have been building toward in recent years. It is likely that such activities may become more common as maritime activity in the Arctic increases in the near future.
