Old friends and colleagues at the Geophysical Institute were informed that Kolf O. Jayaweera, 73, died on May 16, 2012. Jayaweera had battled a long illness as a result of a rare brain disorder. He came to the Geophysical Institute in the early 1970s and served as a physics professor and associate professor of geophysics. Jayaweera also served as dean from 1985-1990 before accepting a position as the Dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at California State University, Fullerton. It is from Cal State Fullerton that Jayaweera retired in 2005.
