4th Annual Geophysical Institute Food Drive
The 4th annual Geophysical Institute Food Drive has begun! This food drive supports the Fairbanks Community Food Bank and their mission to provide food for hungry people living in the Tanana Valley. The food drive will take place through the remainder of the month and items may be donated on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus in Elvey Room 614. The GI hopes to collect 1,000 pounds of food or more to the local charity by October 31, 2012.
Non-perishable and canned goods are especially appreciated, but there are particular items the food bank requests. Breakfast cereal, oatmeal, dried beans and granola bars are most needed. Donations of food should be deposited into the marked bins in Elvey Room 614. If you'd rather donate monetarily, cash or check donations can be dropped off in the same location with Roberta Greenlee or Jackie Dashiel of the GI Business Office. Checks should be made payable to "Fairbanks Community Food Bank." You can also assist the Annual GI Food Drive by giving clean plastic grocery bags, boxes, egg cartons and paper sacks.
Time is also appreciated. If you would rather donate your time to pack food boxes at the Fairbanks Community Food Bank, you may do that too! Find out details on volunteering at the food bank by calling 907-457-4273 or click aweaver [at] fairbanksfoodbank [dot] org (here).
