Travel grants available for graduate students through UAF Graduate School
The University of Alaska Fairbanks Graduate School announces an opportunity for graduate students in good standing to apply for grants to partially cover expenses for travel that will substantially further their education.
Guidelines:
• Students enrolled in Masters and Doctoral degree programs are eligible.
• Students must be in good academic standing (GPA and all paperwork current)
• Travel must be to present a paper at a professional meeting or workshop, participate in an art or musical performance, attend a field school, or undertake some critical collaboration that must be face-to-face. The trip should contribute directly to the student’s graduate education, research, and/or acquaintance with her/his broader professional community.
• Travel must begin no later than June 30.
• Funds will be transferred to the student’s department when the application is approved so that they can be used to purchase tickets and/or pay registration fees prior to the trip. If the student does not take the trip, it is expected that the funds will be returned to the Graduate School.
• The amounts available will be as follows: $500 for meetings within Alaska (exception: $1,000 for field schools within Alaska); $1,000 for trips within the United States; $2,000 for international travel.
• Review of applications by a small committee will begin March 1 and continue as new applications are received until funds are expended.
Application Procedure:
1. Please read the entire set of instructions before proceeding to the electronic form.
2. Give a brief descrition of the proposed trip. Note that there are two sections adapted from the normal NSF review procedure: Intellectual merit: What new things will you learn and/or what original results or concepts will you contribute? Why are you especially qualified to take advantage of this opportunity? Broader impacts: How do you expect this trip to benefit your career and the work of colleagues with whom you will be interacting?
3. Attach a digital copy of a flyer or other document describing the meeting or field school.
4. Attach a digital copy of your advisor's endorsement of your application.
5. If you have any problems or questions, please call Juan Goula 474-5960 or jagoula [at] alaska [dot] edu.
6. By submitting the application, you are agreeing that if you receive a grant you will provide a brief report following your trip of “lessons learned” and an evaluation of the meeting or field school.
7. If you are ready, please click here to proceed to the electronic application form.
