Halos and rainbows: public demonstration at UAF

Fairbanks, Alaska—Ever wonder how light and color reflect in a rainbow or a sundog? 

The Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks invites the public to a free demonstration of artificially made rainbows and halos on Monday, August 5, 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the Elvey Auditorium.

The demonstration is part of the Light and Color in Nature meeting being held at UAF August 5-8, hosted by GI researcher Ken Sassen. The meeting is expected to draw about 45 scientists from around the world who study the science of light and color in nature, including rainbows, sundogs, halos, mirages and other optics caused by light refraction. 

The public demonstration is free, but the meeting is for registered participants and is partially funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
