Education Group makes progress drafting mission, announces leader and deputy
The Geophysical Institute’s newest research group has met consistently since its inception following Roger Smith’s memo on May 9. The Education group is working to develop a mission statement highlighting the core goals of service and broadening the impacts of research. As originally outlined in Smith’s memo, the GI’s eighth group will focus on the formation and sustainability of educational programs related to research done by GI faculty, personnel and students.
Most recently the group announced it had selected a permanent leader and deputy leader. Kathy Berry Bertram and Jon Dehn are now in place as group leader and deputy, respectively. The group accepted nominations for the positions from July 11 – 15 and announced the polling results on Aug. 5. The next issue of the Quarterly will feature an announcement of the group’s creation and will be distributed at American Geophysical Union’s annual conference in December. Education Group membership is elective and all those currently affiliated with the GI are able to join.
