College Intern III (2)  Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game, Sport 
Fish Division - Juneau

The ADF&G, SF Division has two College Intern III (~ 
$14.69/hr; OT hours while in the field) positions available to 
motivated wildlife/fisheries majors graduating AFTER 
September, 2007. Positions will begin mid-May and extend 
through early-mid August, 2007. Applicants must be currently 
enrolled through the Fall Semester of 2007 to be considered. 
Work will be based out of the Douglas (Juneau) ADF&G Regional 
Office with field work occurring throughout Southeast Alaska 
(SEAK). Successful candidates will work in the field and 
office on the following projects: 1) Stream habitat surveys in 
lakes & streams; 2) Steelhead distribution and productivity 
study; 3) Lake (habitat) classification study; 4) 
Transboundary Rivers project; and 5) Nearshore marine 
(habitat) classification study.

Individuals will work in the office (~ 40%) on various project 
specific data entry and reporting tasks. GIS and MS Access 
database skills will be acquired throughout the season during 
these efforts. Field work (~ 60%) will include a variety of 
fish (salmon, trout, char) and fish habitat sampling 
techniques, including documenting distribution patterns and 
habitat associations in freshwater streams and lakes and in 
the nearshore marine environment. Approximately 2-3 field 
trips (5-7 nights) will occur each month during the season 
often under a variety of adverse weather conditions. Field 
accommodations will include tents, cabins and bunkhouses, 
depending on location.

All food and housing accommodations will be provided during 
travel away from Juneau. However, individuals will be 
responsible for their own food and housing while working in 
Juneau.
