There is a great training opportunity coming to Fairbanks in conjunction
with the upcoming Surveying and Mapping conference.
ESRI's Alan Coyle will be teaching Introduction to Geoprocessing Scripts
Using Python, a two-day course, on 19 and 21 March. This is Monday and
Wednesday the week of the conference. The only conference events that
conflict with this training course are short courses on Monday and field
trips on Wednesday.
You must sign up for a full conference registration in order to be eligible
to register for this course. The extra fee for the Python course is $550.
This is a great deal--ordinarily, the cost for the two-day Python course
would be $950, and you also would need to travel out of town.
At this point the course is in danger of being cancelled due to lack of
students. If you are interested, register quickly. If you have already
registered for the conference but did not register for this course, you will
need to contact Arthur Roraff (arthur at thecoordinatorsinc.com) directly to
let him know that you want to add this course to your registration. If you
also let me know (mmacander at abrinc.com) then I'll keep a tally to
persuade ESRI that there is enough interest to keep the course on the
program.
Introduction to Geoprocessing Scripts Using Python
The ArcGIS 9 geoprocessing framework includes a scripting environment, and
PythonR is the scripting language included with ArcGIS. This course
introduces the Python scripting language and shows how it can be used to
access and automate geoprocessing functionality. Students learn Python
scripting syntax, then begin writing scripts to automate geoprocessing
operations. Students also learn how to incorporate Python scripts as custom
tools in ArcToolbox.
$550 with FULL ASMC Registration; not available without full registration.
Location: UAF Tanana Valley Campus Downtown Center, 510 2nd Avenue (6 blocks
north of the Westmark Hotel)
Maximum number of seats: 15
