Cartographer I - DNR Forestry
Position ID Number: 10-N07038

Position Description:

The State Division of Forestry has been funded to update the 
1994 Tanana Valley State Forest Inventory. This position will 
work in support of the update by producing geo-referenced 
aerial photography that will be used for the forest vegetation 
typing process. The forest inventory update is currently 
underway. DOF has scanned 1,670 aerial photos to be utilized 
for the project. The position is responsible for 
geo-referencing scanned aerial photos utilizing PCI Geomatics 
software. During the geo-referencing process, reference points 
will be located on existing satellite images and matched to 
the scanned photos to achieve an accurate geographical 
reference for the photos. Multiple photos will also be joined 
in mosaics using the PCI Geomatics software. This process will 
allow for transformation into epipolar stereo pairs to enable 
vegetation typing. This position is temporary and is currently 
funded to last 4 months, but may be extended another 10 months 
depending on funding levels for FY 2008.
