Robert Herrick Associate Research Professor Robbie's two primary
research areas are the impact cratering process and the resurfacing
histories of the planets. He mostly works with data from NASA's unmanned
missions to the various planetary bodies in the solar system. Geological
and geophysical techniques he has used over the years include spherical
harmonic analysis of gravity and topography, photogeology, geologic
field work, reflection seismology, stereo radargrammetry, magnetic
prospecting, and finite-difference modeling. His background includes
four years with Exxon and ten years as a staff scientist at the Lunar
and Planetary Institute (LPI) in Houston. During his time at LPI he was
heavily involved in that organization's educational and public outreach
programs, including managing the outreach department for a year. He
joined the GI after bicycling from Houston to Fairbanks in the summer of
2004, a 3-month trip that led many to question his sanity. http://www.gi.alaska.edu/~rherrick |
