John Chappelow - PhD candidate - works on all aspects of impact cratering, from impact dynamics, to using craters to study the properties and ages of planetary surfaces. He also studies the planet Mars, with emphasis on the Hematite Region of the planet, which is soon to be visited by a Mars Exploration Rover (MER) mission. Some of his recent work includes development of a new method of recovering crater shapes from shadow measurements, construction of a GUI-based computer program for making crater measurements, and investigation of the effects of Mars' obliquity-driven atmospheric variations on its impact crater population.
