Steve Smith - MS candidate - My research interests are primarily in any aspect of volcano hazards, and the mitigation of those hazards by used of field observations and satellite remote sensing techniques. My graduate M. S. thesis will be on "Analysis of volcanic deposits from the 2001 eruption of Mt. Cleveland using multisensor satellite data and field observations" (preliminary title). I am also, as a graduate research assistant, working for the Alaska Volcano Observatory. My job is to primarily assist in satellite monitoring of active volcanoes from the Cascade Range, Alaskan volcanoes, and Kamchatkan volcanoes in Russia. Primary sensors used for this monitoring are the AVHRR, GOES, GMS, and MODIS satellites, but for post analysis data and research data the sensors of Landsat, SAR, and others are available.
