Mette is primarily a member of the sea ice group and manages the Geophysical Institute’s Snow, Ice, and Permafrost lab. She is the main contact for scheduling the use of the lab’s cold rooms and instrumentation. Mette is the field logistics coordinator for the sea ice group and is involved in reviewing and editing materials in preparation for publication. Her efforts also support remote sensing analysis of sea ice, glaciers and snow.
Scott Macfarlane
System Administrator

scott [dot] macfarlane [at] gi [dot] alaska [dot] edu
Scott maintaints the computer systems for the volcano section of the remote sensing group. He also develops and maintains volcano monitoring tools, databases and displays in the volcano monitoring room. Scott also assists remote sensing faculty, staff and students with computer and software problems.

kim [dot] morris [at] gi [dot] alaska [dot] edu
Kim Morris is primarily associated with the Snow, Ice and Permafrost Group and studies snow and lake and river ice. She is the project scientist and coordinator for the Alaska Lake Ice and Snow Observatory Network (ALISON) and has written the Ice Seasonality Protocol for the GLOBE Seasons and Biomes Project. She has used remotely sensed data to study:
(1) sea ice conditions in the Beaufort Sea (Arctic) and the Ross, Amundsen and Bellingshausen seas (Antarctic) (AVHRR and ERS-1);
(2) the evolution of the ice cover on lakes on the North Slope (Alaska), (ERS-1 and RADARSAT-1); and
(3) the flooding of coastal sea ice by spring river runoff along the Beaufort Sea Coast (Alaska), (ERS-1 & 2 and RADARSAT-1)."
Lovro Valcic
Research Technician
