The Geophysical Institute Map Office, also known as the State Earth Science Information Center (ESIC), is located in the International Arctic Research Center, adjacent to the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

  • USGS topographic and geologic maps of Alaska are available for purchase. They are available in the following scales:
    • 1:250,000-scale
    • 1:63,360-scale
    • 1:25,000-scale (limited to certain areas)
  • A free index to Alaska topographic maps is available by mail upon request;
     
  • Trails Illustrated folded maps for state and national parks in Alaska and the Chilkoot Trail;
  • Selected maps of the Yukon and British Columbia are available for purchase;
     
  • Selected nautical charts published by National Ocean Service (NOAA) are available which include charts for Prince William Sound, Resurrection Bay, and Kachemak Bay.

  • The sample image above represents a small portion of one of the 1:63,360 inch to the mile USGS quads which the Map Office sells. This selection was taken from the Mt. McKinley (D-5) Quadrangle and shows Lake Minchumina north of Denali National Park and Preserve.

     

    A select group of wall size maps of Alaska, the United States, and the world, as well as various thematic maps of Alaska are also available.

    Denali National Park and Preserve (size 43 by 40 inches): Satellite Image Map with topographic map on reverse side. Coated, tear-resistant paper. Scale 1:250,000. 1984.

     

     

    World Map Shaded Relief (size 42 by 56 inches): Identifies countries, capitols, major cities, rivers, etc., bathymetric information , time zones, flight distances between cities, Scale1:30,000,000. 1998.

     

     

    Alaska Map E Shaded Relief (size: 3 ft. by 4 ft.): Identifies roads, place names, airports, borough boundaries and federal boundaries. Scale: 1:2,500,000 revised in 1996.

     

     

    Alaska Map E Contour with Federal Lands (size: 3 ft. by 4 ft.): Has contour lines showing elevation in addition to identifying roads, place names, airports, borough boundaries and federal boundaries. Emphasis on Federal Lands shown in colors. Scale: 1:2,500,000 revised in 1987.

     

     

    Digital Shaded Relief of Alaska (size: 3 ft. by 4 ft.): Emphasizes land forms; no place names, roads or political information shown. Scale: 1:2,500,000 produced in 1997.

     

     

    Geology of Alaska (size: 46 inches. by 70 inches.) two piece set.
