The Permafrost Laboratory is involved in several major IPA approved IPY initiatives. These are:

Permafrost Observatories: Thermal State of Permafrost (TSP) - IPY ID 50
  • Snapshot of global permafrost temperatures (GTN-P)
  • Maximum summer thaw (CALM)
  • International University courses on Permafrost (IUCP)

Arctic Circumpolar Coastal Observatory Network (ACCO-Net) - IPY ID 90
  • Establish and monitor circumarctic observatory sites
  • Arctic Coastal dynamics
Carbon Pools in Permafrost (CAPP) - IPY ID 373
  • Soil Carbon Database for all deposits including peats and non permafrost soils
