Gennadiy Tipenko (Visiting Research Scholar, Part-Time)

Education:

Moscow State University, M.S. Mathematics (Honor Diploma), 1978; Moscow State University, Ph.D. Mathematics, 1985

Research Interests:

Dr. Tipenko did his doctoral work in the spectral theory of differential operators and previously worked at the Moscow State University, Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics. Since coming to the Geophysical Institute in 2000 Dr. Tipenko has been involved in numerical simulation of phase change processes that are associated with permafrost, gas hydrates, subsea permafrost, thermokarst and seasonal snow cover. His research includes Digital Signal Processing and Numerical solution of the inverse problem of Heat Transfer.

Dmitri Sergueev (Visiting Research Scholar, Part-Time)

Education

Moscow State University, M.S. Geology,1986; Moscow State University, Ph.D. Geology, 1991

Research Interests

Dr. Sergueev is interested in the scientific and practical aspects of environmental and engineering problems involving ice and permafrost. These include problems in the areas of heat and mass flow, and growth and decay processes that are associated with permafrost. Dr. Sergueev is also interested in the improvement of GIS in earth-sciences.

Irina Outkina (Research Coordinator, Part-Time)

Education:

Moscow State University, M.S. Geology (Honor Diploma),1978; Moscow State University, Ph.D. Geology, 1991

Research Interests:

Dr. Outkina is interested in the improvement of GIS in earth sciences - to analyze of natural laws for landscapes and Web design. She is also interested in the scientific and practical aspects of environmental problems involving ice and permafrost. Dr. Outkina is interested in the aspects of changing the geocryologic conditions as a result of human activity.

Tatiana Sazonova (Graduated in 2003, Ph.D.)

Education:

American Institute of Business and Economics, Moscow, Certificate of Business Studies,1997; Moscow State University, M.S. Geology (Honor Diploma), 1998; University of Alaska, Fairbanks, PhD. Geophysics, 2003

Research Interests:

Analysis of data and computer modeling, work with GIS - adding the data, digitizing maps. Field works around Fairbanks and at northern parts of Alaska (Nome, Prudhoe Bay)- drilling, describing samples, installing sensors, math modeling using Fortran - models calibration and forecasts.

Galina Yershova (Graduated in 2003, M.S.)

Education:

Moscow State University, B.A. Geology (Honor Diploma), 2000; University of Alaska, Fairbanks, M.S. Geophysics, 2003

Research Interests:

Interested in the dynamics of permafrost thermal regime, including active layer monitoring and influence of snow cover and vegetation. Ecological aspects of climate change, including influence on permafrost conditions.

Sergei Pokrovsky (Graduated in 2003, M.S.)

Education:

Moscow State University, B.A. Geology, 2000; University of Alaska, Fairbanks, M.S. Geophysics, 2003

Research Interests:

Mathematical and analytical modeling of permafrost dynamics, gas hydrates stability zone, subsea permafrost, and other aspects of heat transfer in permafrost regions. Creating GIS, mapping permafrost processes. Coastal processes in Arctic, including thermoerosion, thermoabrasion, and thermodenudation - scientific and practical aspects of environmental and engineering problems.
