PeDoM - Permafrost Degradation on Mars

Characterization of permafrost degradation features on Mars using High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) and Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) data

Scientific personnel

A. Morgenstern, L. Schirrmeister (AWI Potsdam), G. Grosse (GI Permafrost Laboratory), E. Hauber, D. Reiss (DLR Berlin), S.v. Gasselt (FU Berlin)

This project is made possible by funding through AWI and DLR.

Objectives

This project explored the surface morphology and other characteristics of certain martian depression that have similarities with terrestrial thermokarst features. We analyzed relief features in the Utopia Planitia region of Mars and compared these with possible terrestrial analogues from our study areas in North Siberia.
