Two Cent Piece History & Info

The two cent piece was made possible by a provision in the Act of April 22, 1864 which changed the weight and composition of the cent. The provision provided for the production of a bronze two cent piece. It is notable because it was the first coin to include the "In God We Trust" motto. It was very popular during the Civil War because of this motto.


1864-1873 Two Cent Piece. Made of Bronze. Shield on one side and number two with word cents under it on other side.
