Cat's version of Happy Camp

Cat's Version of Happy Camp Trip

If you give me a crystal clear, sparkling mountain stream and beautiful green mountains with plentiful wildlife, it would seem that life would be perfect. Not quite! What else could a person possibly want; only one thing--A FEW GOOD PEOPLE! I have always loved the great outdoors, but I also like people. I have a great need for both. Both is what I got at Happy Camp, California. The small camp on the South Fork of Indian Creek during the first two weeks of August was the best of both worlds.

After checking into the motel, I called Q's room because I knew he was staying at the same place I was staying. Q follows the old saying, "Early to bed, early to rise. . . ." It was about 8:15 p.m., and regretfully I woke him. We made arrangements to have breakfast together the next morning at 7 a.m. I' am a "Late to rise, late to bed person." Because I wanted to meet Q, I made an exception and got up early for breakfast. Q lives in Guam. He gets on the internet early in the morning Guam time which is afternoon in Continental USA. A lot of the people he knows on the Lost Treasure Chat are on at that time. He often times tells us what he is having for breakfast. I always thought maybe he was exaggerating. Believe me; Q doesn't exaggerate about his breakfast. I enjoyed Q's soft way of speaking. I found him to be very interesting. He was always helpful to me and my family while we panned for gold. After breakfast on our first morning, Q guided us to the camp.

Laura and Susan were waiting for Q with his coffee. Laura and Susan (AZ) were like official greeters. Laura, the first one I met, was about the sweetest, kindest person one could meet.

Next, was Susan (AZ). She was a very kind, friendly, quiet person. I will never forget Susan's (AZ) helpfulness to my family. She was very patient showing my son, Andrew, and Robert, my husband, how to properly pan for gold.

Jim (Ca) has a beautiful family. He brought his daughter, son-in-law, and three grand kids. They are such smart, good kids. Andrew had fun throwing rocks into the water and swimming in the cold, clear water with them.

I had the pleasure of meeting Bob-O on Sat. morning. I had never really thought about what to expect out of Bob-O. I talk to him occasionally on the chat site, but most of the time he comes on after I go to bed. I said hi to Bob and noticed what a nice guy he was. We then went down to the stream. I kept telling myself that I wanted to talk more to Bob. I went over to where he was, but he was gone. I went up to camp, and he was there. He said that he wasn't feeling well because of some new medication. He was a pleasure to talk with; and if it hadn't been for the medication, maybe he would have been out and gone and I wouldn't have gotten to know him as well. He is a truly kind, quiet, funny person.

Since Jesse and RC had arrived late, late Friday night and left early, early Sat. morning, I finally decided that I would be returning to Cincinnati before I had the pleasure of meeting Jesse and RC. However, late Saturday evening they arrived. Jesse is "Mr. Personality" as he is on the internet. He tries to laugh at everything and be cheerful all the time. However, next time someone else does the cooking.

What can I say about RC? RC was like a little rich boy that had toys and was only going to share them with his chosen few and that chosen few had to be men. I thought he was kidding at first, but he was serious. He had a White's van full of detectors of all kinds. He had the men around his van a number of times and each time I approached, he would close the van. I laughed like everyone else, but I hadn't been that insulted since I was a little kid trying to play with a bunch of selfish little girls.

My most memorable moments were the following: The breakfasts we had with Q each morning; riding with Q up to the camp to take Jim's family and the return home when he hit Bambi, a small deer that I hope survived; Jim (CA) patiently teaching Andrew how to get gold out of moss; Jim and his family lost at the motel and Jim going meow, meow, meow; the drunk guy, Tom, saying the word "masturbate" to see my reaction; the kindness of Susan (AZ) to me and my family; the itching I have suffered and will suffer for the follow weeks because of the poison oak I got when I used the all outdoors to tinkle in. Snakes have taken on a different meaning ever since I heard what Q did to one while he was using nature. I had a great time and I truly liked everyone even better than I thought I would. Everyone was like an old friends. Andrew said that it was a perfect vacation. He said that he would have liked to have stay one more day!
