rc's Version

Just my funny way of viewing the visit of Jesse and our trips which included going to Happy Camp. I thought the best way to do this was just start with day one when I picked up Jesse at the airport in Eugene Oregon. A week with Jesse is definitely an adventure especially if there is a Dairy Queen near by to stop at.

WENSDAY Had to pick up Jesse at the Airport at 8:00 in the morning..... no sleeping in for me heh heh..... no problem found him and got his luggage loaded up in the car and back to Rc's house we go, straight shot right? WRONG went by a Dairy Queen no problem I thought to myself they are closed. Boy if I knew Jesse would be grumpy the rest of the day I would have made them open up just for him. Made it to the house still in one piece.... About this time Jesse was really getting mad no D.Q. and he was in Oregon for 2 hours already. Ah I better hurry and occupy his mind, I know I'll take him to see Wanda and on the way I'll take him to Elmer's to eat so off we go. Boy I was lucky no D.Q.'s on the way, what a break and he was just thinking about seeing Wanda. We did finally make it, walked in to see Wanda and she was at her desk in the other room heh heh. Told Jesse to stay in the first room what a plan heh heh, anyway walked up to Wanda and told her Jesse wasn't on the plane and wasn't in the airport and I waited around for an hour and a half. She almost killed me told me I better find out what happen to him and go get him heh heh. Well as soon as she saw the baseball bat I told Jesse to get in here I wanted to live heh heh. She just about killed me, boy someday you think I would learn not to mess with her. Anyway Jesse visited with Wanda while I went and picked up the van for us to use for the next couple of days..... finally got it loaded up and off to the Forest Service Ranger District to get permission or see if it's ok to hunt this one lake that I knew about. So far so good we're on our way OH NO we just past another D.Q. and he lets me know about it lol. Had to promise to stop on the way back so we did.... Thank goodness he was about to rip my head off. Stopped back at work to pick up something I forgot and what does Wanda have for Jesse? None other than a slug trap LOL. Finally back at the house, time to get some rest oh no Jesse wanted to go water hunting and what kind of gear did I have for that not a thing. So off to the store we go. Made it in one piece and no road kill yet ... what a break. Well , Jesse and I got what we needed and back to the house we go boy that was expensive. Finally time to finish packing the van and sit down and visit, about time I to go to bed and get my usual sleep LOL.

THURSDAY: Oh no Jesse checked his swim trunks that he brought and they were ripped in the pocket. Dang it he found it, thought I would get all his finds heh heh. So back to Albany to exchange his gear, no problem oh no he sees a donut shop so we stopped and picked up some donuts for Wanda. What a buddy didn't even let me get into them till Wanda had her pick of them and I was real HUNGRY! Oh no a junk yard on the way so we did stop so Jesse could look for a hubcap for his wife's, car how thoughtful. We did finally make it to Wanda's office thank goodness now I can eat a donut and have a cup of coffee. Oh yes over to Steve's office for a scoop, boy I am not prepared for this water hunting, who's idea was this anyway, "JESSE I could shoot you! "heh heh. Finally off to the lake and Jesse is roasting so we stopped at the ice caves so he can cool down to what he is use to in Alaska ..... he even had to take a nature break on the state park LOL. After all this can I show my face in Oregon no problem I'll just tell everyone I don't know him heh heh. Back on the road again and we did make it to the lake so we started hunting, boy is this different than from land hunting. One thing Jesse forgot to tell me was not to sneeze with my mask on LOL. Well it's time to go and we are hungry again heh heh oh I know there's a store about 10 miles from here and with big fish you can see in the river. On to the store we go.... Finally food and a drink and I blew it again no fish to see in the river oh well time to get home. Almost made it home without stopping but we did find a restaurant to eat at dang it not an all you can eat place .... Better luck next time heh heh. Did finally made it home and the bed felt real good.

FRIDAY: The day to travel to Happy Camp has finally came but first we have to take the wife and kids to Elmer's for breakfast so I can go to Happy Camp..... could this be blackmail? YUP. Breakfast went down without a hiccup and boy I am full now. So we go back to the house and finishing getting things to go oh we have a novel thought why not take some sleeping bags and a tent. Got lucky we had the sleeping bags but no tent so I call a friend and he was nice enough to lend one to us. Finally on the road to Happy Camp. Dang couldn't find a route with no Dairy Queens ......I Know I will just drive by them, Jesse will never know heh heh. This is bad Jesse is starting to threaten my life he has seen two or three of them already. I know there's one in White City and they have the best fries... use to eat there all the time 15 years ago. Finally we arrive at that DQ. Jesse couldn't wait, he ran inside and ordered. I finally catch up and was able to order not much left after Jesse ordered all the food. Dang it, I had to settle for a hamburger. Well time to hit the road again, oh no! we went by the order counter and Jesse is ordering a dilly bar. Finally we are in the van and on the road again. We finally find Happy Camp and stop to see a friend real quick and set up a trip for Saturday. Now to find the camp so we drove around the city and nothing ah lets stop at the 49er's and look at the bulletin board no problem it has where people are at so Jesse puts down that we are lost and tired. What's this someone wants to know what we are doing.... What a break it's Bill and he tells us how to get to the camping spot and its getting dark so we diffidently needed some help. So off we go up this road oh no what's that in the road oh Jesse say look out for the dog..... WRONG! Jesse that no dog, it's a bear! I thought you were from Alaska. LOL. Well we finally found the place to turn and the little dirt road. Are you sure you want to keep going on this road Jesse? It might be hard to turn around. Jesse says, "oh sure, lets go a little farther" . Oh thank goodness, there's a camp. I wonder if it's the right one... yup! I see Jim, that's got to be him. So we stop and introduce ourselves and the usual crap heh heh. We met Jim, Laura, Susan AZ, Susan and her family. We help set up a few tents and starting to have a good visit and then there was this pickup with people in the back... oh no it's stopping ... looks like Bob~O is driving, man... what kind of person is this? LOL. Anyway he introduces himself and I'm thinking to myself man this isn't going to be fun with him around but he does manage to get rid of the drunks heh heh. The rest of the night we just talked and got to know each other... what a great bunch of people.... Finally they let me think about sleep heh heh. Wrong!, Jesse and I decide to sleep in the van and only have a couple hours till we have to leave. Besides that, the ground looks real hard. So we get in the front seat of the van and recline them, cover ourselves with the sleeping bags and we get to go to sleep. AUGHHHHHH! what's that noise???? is there a bear or something in the van?? oh no, it's Jesse and he is snoring real loud!! Now where was that duct tape? Finally, I fall asleep for an hour or two.

SATURDAY: Jesse wakes up and visits Mother Nature..... comes back and tells me come on we need to get out of here and meet our guide. So we sneak out at 5:30 or 6:00 in the morning heh heh. So we are off to his house and then to breakfast Finally we arrive at the mine and we are introduced to everyone there. Time to hunt wrong! Now we go to the owners house to be introduced to him...A real nice guy....had a real good visit with him and he was kind enough to show us some of the gold that they have gotten out of their mine. He even told us where some gold was heh heh. Now we are off to the mine and our guide starts explaining all about the mine and the history of the mine. That in itself was well worth the trip. Ah Jesse finds that spot that the owner told us about He's off and running up the hill to it heh heh oh well I didn't want it let Jesse have it LOL. Jesse's detector just screamed over that spot on the rock cliff heard it real well and we were about 200 feet away. It's getting real hot by this time so the guide and me sit down in the shade and watch Jesse, man what is he trying to dig the mountain up with his little rock hammer LOL. He worked at this for 45 minutes and hardly a dent can't even see the gold heh heh. Finally Jesse gets smart and gives up and starts hunting the slope of gravel going up to the cliff... what do you know he finds GOLD. What I screwed up, wore a black shirt down on Friday and didn't even change it to go hunting in the hot sun. Man, what dummy did that? sure couldn't of be me! heh heh. Time to try a new spot in the shade, after about ten minutes I find a speck of gold. Well its time to go so we pack up our rocks and gold that we found and head back to town. Pew!, Jesse you need a shower! Hurry roll down that window it smells in here, ah! fresh air, thank goodness. First stop lets check into a hotel and shower before we head back to the camp. So we go to the hotel and check into a room so we will have a decent place to sleep for the night, its hell to survive on two or three hours of sleep. Well who do we run into while checking into the hotel, MEOW! boy does she scold us for running off so early in the morning. After we were introduced to her family we get into the room and shower and clean up. Now its time to go to the camp and see who else is there that we haven't met yet and most of all FOOD! What do you know we found it again what luck. There we meet Q and say hi to everyone else again. Finally the FOOD Bob~O has some real good ribs could of ate all of those heh heh and what's this Jesse's moose chili is ready, yummy let me try it.... Quick I need a beer or pop! too dang hot man! this is terrible!! heh heh. Thank goodness for Bob~O and the beer. Otherwise I would have had to run down to the creek and drink it dry. Thank goodness Bob~O had those ribs or I might of starved to death. So everyone is sitting around in the chairs and Bob~O starts to doze off... BIG MISTAKE.... Quick grab a twig and toss it at him bingo it gets him heh heh.... Now to look innocent. So he looks around for about five minutes and he somehow figures out I did it, dang it I guess I just don't look innocent enough. Heh Heh. Well it's getting late and time for bedtime so we go back to the hotel and get some sleep.

SUNDAY: Finally a good night's sleep I remembered the duct tape this time, so quiet in the room last night it was easy to sleep. So we get up and go to the guides house, man it's late in the day already must have had a QUIET night. We finally get to see his wife to say hi and have a cup of coffee with them. Well guess what we forgot a detector in his rig good thing we went back to his house. So we say bye and then he offers his travel trailer to us so we don't have to stay at the hotel again what a break. So we go back to the hotel and check out and then the best of all we go get breakfast, man am I hungry. Finally its time to go to the camp where everyone is and having a good time. We get lucky again some of the others are getting ready to leave to go detecting up on Scott's Bar and Bob~O is leaving from there good timing would of hated to miss saying good bye to him. Time for some photos before he leaves so its time to break the camera as I usually do when my picture is taken thank goodness that is over. This time it doesn't seem so hot out detecting I know what it is I didn't wear a black shirt. Back to the rigs and we have a last beer with Bob~O ah that hit the spot well it's time for him to leave oh well his beer is gone now anyway heh heh. So we all load up and go back to the camp for a swim in the creek now that sounds good. We arrive Cat and her family are there and getting ready to say bye when we get back so we say good bye to Cat and her family and then head for the creek. Finally a get to get clean again.... What's this? Q is shivering in the 65 degree water. Look around and no one else thinks its cold ..... that's right, Q is from Guam, that explains it heh heh. Well it's time to get out of the water. I don't stink now so people can stand to be around me now and it's almost dinner time please no moose chili tonight heh heh. Thank goodness Susan's husband Rick made his spaghetti and boy was it good what's this Jesse not around dang where did he go? ah I know he must be on the creek looking for gold. Well it's starting to get dark so I better go hog tie Jesse and get to the travel trailer got to get there before they go to bed or we might have to get a hotel again for the night. Man that was close they were just getting ready for bed when we arrived at his place.

MONDAY: We get up and go have coffee with the guide and his wife and say goodbye to them for putting up with us and thanked him for the time we had with him. Ah time to go meet Q for breakfast and visit with him ....finally I get to eat and have some food bout time I was getting real hungry. Well it's time to head out to the camp and see what's going on.... What's this Jesse wants to go buy the gold from the hotel manager so we're off to the hotel that we stayed in the other night get to the hotel and guess what? No manager around so I guess Jesse is out of luck this time oh no what's is he doing now? getting ice to fill up the ice chest heh heh. So off to camp we go and get to visit with everyone that is still at the camp. So we are standing around talking and Laura and Susan (Calif.) just start laughing for no apparent reason hmmm! Wonder if my pants are falling down again heh heh. Well it's time to start heading home so we start saying our good byes and now they got to take more pictures of the three smart asses ugh I'm not photogenic. Finally we are on our way what's this Jesse got Q's tools oh no there is a crow bar besides Jesse. Maybe I better stop at the first DQ we see. So we take the short cut to Oregon got to get to that DQ fast or I may not survive ... boy is this road different than the one we came in on some spots are only one lane do to the slides on the mountain. Finally we make the main road and here comes a town what luck a DQ is there so we stop and Jesse gets to have DQ LOL. Back on the road again and I bet I can make it home without anymore DQ's. Finally there's my house and are we glad to get back what's this Jesse is running into the house must be something wrong. OH no he found the three apple pies' my wife cooked while we were away.... NO wait Jesse! I want a sample of one, too late! there goes one of the pies ....lucky for me the wife made more than one! LOL.

TUESDAY: Time to clean out the van and put everything back into the car man it barely fit. Well off we go to my work place... had to stop and wash and vacuum out the van .... Boy was it dirty. Finally at work so we visit with Mark and Wanda for a bit and now I am getting hungry. On the way to the parking lot we got an invite for lunch what luck thought I was going to have to feed Jesse at DQ. No DQ today heh heh we went to Ribticklers man that was good and the best part no DQ LOL. Time to get back home so Jesse can load up his belongings and then we can get to the airport. So far so good we're at the airport drop Jesse off and say goodbye. Finally we are home and can get to the club meeting that night. What's this phone call its Jesse.. now what oh no he had to call his wife to get my phone number maybe he missed the plane heh heh. Not a chance first thing he talks about is the gold inside his rocks and how he was able to see it through the security devices at the airport. Oh yes he wanted to let us know about the can of pop in the freezer and before it exploded. Oh no we better go look it's been in there awhile. I can see the mess now whew what luck never exploded so what's the moral... don't let Jesse near the freezer next time LOL. But Jesse did catch the plane and did make it home as planned heh heh.

Just my thought's what the people that showed up are like heh heh. Very nice and what a group of people that I would never have met in person, it would have been hard not to have a good time with everyone there. Everyone was so nice and friendly, in fact it was like we were almost like family with everyone. And above all if anyone sleeps in the same room with Jesse, make sure you have duct tape.
