Alaska Earthquake Center analysis of the Friday, 1/19, M5.3 earthquake

The Geophysical Institute's Alaska Earthquake Center has been conducting additional analyses and preparing data visualizations for the M5.3 earthquake that occurred during the GI tours on Friday, 1/19. The web story on the earthquake contains information about the aftershocks and differences in seismic responses on the five floors we have instrumented in the UAF Usibelli engineering building.

Read the story: http://earthquake.alaska.edu/magnitude-53-earthquake-near-salcha-rattles-interior-alaska

Visit the UAF Geophysical Institute Facebook page to learn about the earthquake in a short video from Alaska State Seismology Michael West. Read about the experience of AWW24 tour participants who requested an earthquake while touring AEC!
