Data Center Facility Upgrade Project, May 13-20

On Saturday, May 13, through Saturday, May 20, UAF Facilities Services, OIT, and contractors will be conducting planned maintenance in the Butrovich Building to integrate a new Uninterruptible Power Supply for the Butrovich Data Center (BDC).  Electrical systems will be completely powered down to ensure safety for the technicians doing the work.

This planned maintenance will mean UA enterprise systems and UAF/GI research systems hosted in the BDC will be completely offline and unavailable during the following times:

Saturday, May 13: Starting at 05:00 AM and scheduled to conclude at 05:00 PM

Saturday, May 20: Starting at 04:00 AM and scheduled to conclude at 09:00 PM

The UAF main campus, including Butrovich and the GI, and all UAF community campuses and outreach centers will lose on-campus internet access during the planned shutdowns. UA and UAF users will also lose access to VPN services and any shared file servers hosted in the BDC.

The shutdown will affect all systems and devices in the Butrovich Building, with the exception of water, sewer, sprinklers and fire alarms. Systems and services not hosted in the BDC should be available, such as email and other Google applications.

As part of the UPS integration process, the Butrovich Building will be on limited temporary power for the time period between Saturday, May 13, through Saturday, May 20. During this period there will be no power to personnel occupied spaces within the Butrovich Building.

RCS will be following up with further details regarding any systems we support for researchers. If you have resources in the data center that are not supported wholly or in part by RCS and aren't sure if your equipment will be on temporary power from the 14th through the 19th, please contact Derek Ward, the OIT Data Center Operations Manager.
