Congratulations, graduates!
Congratulations to all students affiliated with the Geophysical Institute who graduated this year! The GI community extends our congratulations and very best wishes to each of you.
Hunter Barndt completed two degrees from different UAF colleges: a bachelor of science in physics, concentration in computational physics, College of Natural Science and Mathematics; and a bachelor of science in computer science with minor in mathematics, College of Engineering and Mines. Barndt has been working with GINA for the last two years and expects to continue through the summer. Hunter is also a part of the UAF Space Weather UnderGround (SWUG) team with the G.I. on the seventh floor. That is the team he worked with for his senior project and GINA was his my student job.
Two full-time employees of the Alaska Earthquake Center graduated this spring. Gabriel Low received an interdisciplinary bachelor of arts degree in fostering STEM engagement. Gabe is a K-12 Outreach Specialist for AEC and the leader for the Alaska Seismology in Schools program.
Luke Underwood received a bachelor of science degree in computer Sscience. Luke is a full-time staff member in the Alaska Earthquake Center. Luke is a developer with the AEC systems team, and builds and maintains software that supports AEC analysts, databases and the near real-time seismic data system.
Logan Fusso completed an master of science in geophysics. His major professor was Ronni Grapenthin.
Jordan Bishop completed a doctorate in geophysics: solid earth geophysics. His major professor was David Fee.
Drew Coffin completed a doctorate in space physics. His major professor was Peter Delamere. He has moved on to a postdoc at Boston University. "I miss the Fairbanks scenery but Boston is going well," he said.
Federico Covi completed a doctorate in geophysics. His major professor was Regine Hock. Federico just completed a term as a researcher at Oslo University and will shortly be heading off to a postdoc position at the British Antarctic Survey in the U.K.
Julia Gestrich completed a doctorate in geophysics: solid earth geophysics. Her major professor was David Fee.
Jaewoong Jung completed a doctorate in physics; his major professors were Hui Zhang and Hyunju Connor. Jaewoong graduated last summer and currently works as a postdoctoral researcher at NASA GSFC
