Peter Delamere tackles a 350-mile winter bike ride — again

Geophysical Institute scientists are tough!

Space physicist Peter Delamere of the UAF Geophysical Institute and UAF College of Natural Science and Mathematics is pedaling away in the Iditarod Trail Invitational, an event that can be done on bike, on foot or by ski. It has a 1,000-mile class and a 350-mile class for each.

Peter, who can regularly be seen coming and going from the UAF Elvey Building on his fatbike, is in the 350-mile bicycle class.

This is Peter’s second year in the event. He finished the 350-mile bike class last year seventh out of 20 in a time of 4 days, 8 hours, 43 minutes.

He was at mile 120 just before noon Alaska time today.
